Public and Nonprofit Administration

This course focused on the overview of public and non-profit organizations. I learned about topics such as supervision, organizational design, communication strategies, and social marketing for public and non-profit programs. Please review the below info-graphic my group and I created during this course to demonstrate our learning outcomes.

I learned the fundamentals of how to establish and maintain a nonprofit organization from this course. After developing our nonprofit “Cincy4Youth” with my team, this experience supported several course concepts such as how to develop a effective mission statement, establishing a shared vision, exploring funding goals, effective ways to establish partnerships, and how to conduct a SWOT analysis to identify areas within our organization where we are strong and where we need to improve. Additionally this experience enhanced my abilities as a team member. My team and I were effective in creating positive communication climates for our collaboration and gave us the opportunity to learn from one another and blend our ideas and practices into one infographic to support our nonprofits cause to help children in Cincinnati who are in need.

The development of our infographic helped demonstrate the following course outcomes:

– Describe and use current definitions and terminology related to public and non-profit administration.

– Describe public and non-profit organizational designs. Describe the systematic approach to managing quality public and non-profit administration programs and organizations.

– Identify decision-making and communication strategies for effective supervision of staff and community workers.

– Discuss the budgetary and funding strategies unique to public and non-profit organizations, including government and grant sources and strategies.

– Discuss the use of commercial and social marketing strategies to facilitate community engagement for public and non-profit programs and organizations.

This course has been a positive experience and has equipped me with the knowledge and practices that I will apply in my future educational and professional endeavours.
